Bishkek is the largest and the most populated city of Kyrgyzstan with a population of over 1 million. The capital has quite an active transportation infrastructure. Of course, there is much to be changed and developed in this sphere, yet every year public transportation system of the capital is being updated with new buses.

It is the cheapest way to get around the capital. There are four types of public transport in Bishkek; trolleybus, marshrutka, municipal bus, and taxi. Buses and marshrutkas usually run from 6 am to 10 pm.
Marshrutka is the most popular type of public transport not only in Bishkek but also in all cities of the post-soviet countries. While minivans are dominating cars in the traffic and they are easily recognized. The price for a ride costs about 0.14 USD. Thus, it is a cheap and fast way to get from one point to the other. In rush hours, marshrutkas are often overcrowded; the locals have already got used to it yet for the guests it is unacceptable.
Trolleybuses and buses are slower than marshrutkas yet they are safe and less crowded. The price for a ride on a trolleybus or a bus is about 0.11 USD.
The intercity bus is the main way to get to the remote zones. The average price for a ride is 3.5 USD.
Taxi is the most convenient transport to move around the city. Of course, it is more expensive than public transport. The average price for a ride is 1.40 USD. There are also mobile applications to order a taxi like Yandex Taxi and Namba Taxi. They are much safer and comfortable.
Car rental is possible in Bishkek, yet the traffic is mad with a lack of road markings. Car rental may be an option to get to remote areas. Cycling is not quite suitable as well. Still, you can always try to conquer Bishkek and Kyrgyzstan on a bicycle.
