The house-museum of Vazgen Sargsyan was opened in his hometown of Ararat, opposite his house. Vazgen Sargsyan, or Sparapet, as people used to call him, was the leader of the national movement for the constitutional self-determination of Nagorno-Karabakh in 1988. A little bit later he became the commander of the volunteer units of Yerkrapah and took part in defensive battles. In 1991, Vazgen Sargsyan was appointed the first Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. Sparapet together with other deputies was killed on October 27, 1999 in the building of the National Assembly.
The museum presents all the personal things of Vazgen Sargsyan. On the right side of the house are clothes, books, photos, a desk and a collection of weapons. In the left part of the house are collected all the gifts that he received during his life and those presented to the museum after his death.
