Gyumri is the second largest city of Armenia and the administrative center of Shirak region. The city will be quite interesting for tourists: spacious streets, picturesque old neighborhoods, numerous museums, unhurried measured life of local residents.
The climate is continental, summer is not very hot and winters are snowy and frosty. The warmest month is August.
Gyumri is located in a seismic zone and the earthquakes have been frequent here, after which many old buildings of the city were damaged. But despite this fact, some old historical buildings have been preserved. In the city center, you can see the building of the XIX-th century and the old churches of St. Astvatsatsin and Surb Amenaprkich.
In the local museum, you can get acquainted with the interesting local history exhibits. And if you climb the highest hill, you can admire the view of the entire city from the heights and also visit the Black Fortress preserved from the time of Russian-Turkish war.
