The Museum of Modern Art was the first of its kind in the USSR. The architects of the museum’s unique building were G. Aramyan and J. Torosyan. The museum was opened in 1972, but in 2007 it was moved to a new building, where the works of the first generation of contemporary artists began to be exhibited along with the works of the younger generation.
The very first exhibition in the museum was dedicated to contemporary Armenian artists who presented their works to the museum. To date, the collection of the Museum of Modern Art is considered one of the richest of XX and XXI centuries. The museum features works of such famous Armenian artists as Saryan, Avetisyan, Shiraz, Khanjyan, brothers Elibekyan, Tokmadzhyan and many others. From time to time, the museum holds seminars and lectures on art for the younger generation. The museum’s collection was repeatedly exhibited in the cities of the CIS and in Europe.
The museum works every day except Monday from 11:00 to 18:00. The ticket to the museum costs 500 AMD, excursions in foreign languages are also organized (the price of the tour is 2500 AMD).
