Monument of Sayat-Nova

The Sayat-Nova monument was opened in Yerevan in 1963, right after one of the avenues in Yerevan was named after the great poet.

Sayat-Nova was one of the most outstanding poets of his time. Ashugh lived and worked in Tbilisi, wrote songs in Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani.

The monument of white marble represents a wall of large blocks with the ashugh’s head on the left and the image of three women on the right side. The words ashugh are carved on the stone:

“Not all my key is rattling to drink: the special taste of my streams!

Not everyone admires my writings: the special meaning of my words! ”

The monument is considered one of the most famous works of sculptor Ara Harutyunyan.
